Logo Design / Wayfinding / Signage System
The Welkom Library & Museum is a local library in the Free State. It has been largely left to its own devices by the local municipality and really needed a wayfinding and signage system, not only for easier navigation of the building but also to simply update its look and feel.
A new logo and basic signage proposal was created as a pro-bono project for the library but was unfortunately never produced, due to budget constraints.

The Welkom Library & Museum had been neglected by the local municipality, resulting in an outdated appearance and difficult navigation for visitors. The facility needed a comprehensive wayfinding and signage system that would not only modernize its look but also improve the user experience for patrons trying to navigate the building and locate resources.
With limited resources and budget constraints, the design solution needed to be both impactful and cost-effective, with a focus on practical implementation that could potentially be phased in over time.
We developed a modern, distinctive logo for the Welkom Library & Museum that served as the foundation for a comprehensive wayfinding system. The design utilized the Dewey Decimal classification system as inspiration, creating variations of the main logo to represent each of the 10 main sections of the library.
These variations were applied to large signage that would be placed to mark each section, making navigation intuitive for visitors. The design incorporated visual elements like lightbulbs to represent knowledge and ideas, creating a cohesive visual language throughout the facility.
Although budget constraints prevented implementation, the design proposal provided a complete blueprint for future implementation when funding becomes available.
